Subject: Extension "Walk Our Talk" Survey

The Survey explores "ARE WE PRACTICING WHAT WE TEACH?" Please take a few minutes to lend a hand by taking a short survey. You can read more about the survey or go to the survey now.

Dear fellow Extension personnel,

In these tight economic times, Extension programs are scrutinized closely for their relevance and benefit to the public. Whether it's called "going green", "sustainability", "climate change", or a host of other names; ARE WE PRACTICING WHAT WE TEACH? If we aren't, why aren't we?
The Extension Walk Our Talk Survey seeks to answer these questions.

The "Walk Our Talk" sub-committee is part of NNSLE (National Network for Sustainable Living Education), which is itself a sub-group of ANREP (Association of Natural Resource Extension Professionals). This survey is based on a prior survey performed by a NNSLE member at the University of Missouri. The updated survey has received approval from the U. of Missouri Institutional Review Board.

The information gathered from the survey will be compiled and thoroughly analyzed. Results will
be made available either online or as a Journal of Extension article that serves as a follow-up to the commentary piece in the April 2008 issue, "Sustainable Living Education: A Call to All
Extension." The goal is to get a better idea of our strengths, weaknesses, and motivations. Ideally, this can lead to program improvements and better visibility of our role in this important area.

Many people have a time crunch right now, as well as facing smaller budgets, reduced staff, and other demands on their attention. Rather than being just "one more thing" that people have to fill out, it is hoped that the responses will help Extension focus its attention on this important issue; thereby increasing Extension's relevance to the public.

To be effective, we are hoping to get as many responses from as many states as we can. This
will help us see if there are differences or trends based on location. We are also very interested
in seeing what motivations (belief, coercion, economy, etc.) are prompting these behaviors. We
are, therefore, requesting the support of Extension administration across the US, and that they
send the survey link out to all Extension personnel for completion. All responses are
anonymous.

Thank you for your time and participation in this effort!
