The Vice Chancellor for Agriculture and Life Sciences of The Texas A&M University System invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service. A state agency headquartered in College Station, AgriLife Extension has a vast network of 250 county extension offices and some 830 statewide professional educators who are dedicated to improving the lives of people, businesses and communities across Texas and beyond through high-quality, relevant education. AgriLife Extension is an integral component of The Texas A&M University System and extends the land-grant mission of teaching, research, extension and service by partnering with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Texas A&M University, Texas AgriLife Research, Texas Forest Service and the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.
The Director serves as the chief executive officer and reports to the Vice Chancellor for Agriculture and Life Sciences of The Texas A&M University System. An earned doctoral degree in agriculture, extension education, family and consumer sciences, natural resources, educational administration, or related areas is required. Preferred candidates will have 15 years of extension experience, with a minimum of 5 years of significant administrative/management experience. A thorough understanding and appreciation of the land-grant university system and extension’s relationship with teaching, research and service are essential. As an advocate for extension programming at the county, state, national and international level, the ideal candidate should be an articulate and effective spokesperson who can embrace and manage change while respecting Texas AgriLife Extension’s traditional and historic accomplishments. Candidates should have a proven record of leading complex organizations, promoting diversity, and working with elected officials at the county, state and national level.
